Assassin’s Creed is one of the best franchises from Ubisoft this generation. The first game was an ambitious project, but the lack of variety prevented the game from being Game of the Year. Ubisoft learned from the past mistakes and delivered a great game in the form of Assassin’s Creed 2. The game was a real success for Ubisoft and in 2010 we are promised a return to the same setting from Assassin’s Creed 2, Italy, but this time we will explore the city of Rome, with the same Ezio Auditore da Firenze. The new game is called Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood and aside from the story mode, it now features an all-new multiplayer mode. Today, we will talk about the multiplayer beta and share our impressions with you.
The menus are the same as in Assassin’s Creed 2 and our destination for now is the multiplayer button. When you first enter the multiplayer component, you will play through an introduction part that serves as a tutorial for the basic mechanics of the game. Here, you’ll take out your first three targets and learn how to stealth kill. You will gain more experience by playing the game.
When the multiplayer for Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood was first announced, I was like “come on, this won’t work”, but the guys at Ubisoft are up to something. The Assassin’s Creed multiplayer is incredible. You have a fair amount of characters to choose from, the game features a level-based system (only 20 available in the beta), unlocking new abilities as you progress through levels. The gameplay is the same as it was in Assassin’s Creed 2, you still have to keep the R1 button pressed to run and R1+X to climb the buildings. You can still hide in the crowd and jump to safe spots from high ground. There are some differences though: you can’t enter hand to hand combat in multiplayer and the majority of actions, including killing and hiding, are all done with the square button.
The rules are pretty straightforward: you are given a target and you must find him with the help of a compass that shows you the way. At the same time, another player is chasing you and you’ll have to be careful, because if he sees you, you’ll have to run and hide ASAP. A weird thing that I found out is that the pursuer is always running faster than the victim, so you won’t have much time to evade. When it comes to evading a pursuer, you have some options to choose from. First, you can run to the nearest hiding spot and hope that the enemy didn’t saw you. You can also run from building to building and try to lose the eye contact. The last thing you can do is to use some of the elusive abilities that you unlocked in the meantime. When you want to approach an opponent, you can run straight at him and blow your cover or you can take a more stealthy approach and climb some buildings and then, jump right on top of him. As I said earlier, you can use only stealth kills and can’t engage in hand-to-hand combat. Maybe later, you’ll unlock one of those badass pistols and be able to perform long-range kills.
I really enjoyed the beta and I’m sure this game will be at least as good as Assassin’s Creed 2. Stay tuned on GamaGanda.net for the full review of the game after its release.
