NFS Hot Pursuit Demo, Trailer

We have a new trailer from NFS Hot Pursuit, the next installment in the NFS franchise, scheduled for November 16th in the US and November 19th in the UK for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. Electronic Arts also announced that a demo is now available via Xbox LIVE Marketplace, while the PS3 version will be released tomorrow. If you intend to get the demo, you should do so now, as the demo ends on November 9 (meaning that demo features like Autolog will not be available after November 9).

In the Need for Speed Hot Pursuit demo, players will be able to chase as a cop in the Dark Horse Hot Pursuit event, speeding through the coastal highway and mountainous ridges of Seacrest County. At the heart of the demo is a social network called Autolog that tracks cop and racer performances while playing solo and uses those statistics to generate fierce competition between friends. Once players add a friend to their Need for Speed friends list, the second event will unlock called Roadster’s Reborn, where gamers can compete as racers to set the best times. When they download and play the demo they will also earn 500 bounty award points in the full game for both Cop and Racer careers. Accruing bounty will allow players to unlock events and exotic cars and progress through their careers in the full game.

Use of Bounty Point from the demo requires full game and use of the same EA Account used to play the demo.
Autolog is not available on the Wii (a Wii version of the game is also in the works).

Vanquish Challenge Mode Demo Available

A Vanquish Challenge Mode Demo is now available via the PlayStation Network’s Japanese Store. You will need a Japanese account in order to be able to download the demo, which is quite small, just 378MB.

We tried the demo and enjoyed it a lot. The menus are in English and you have access to the Challenge Mode and Options. The mode basically throws waves of enemies at you. In the beginning, you have a couple of soldiers helping you, but after a few rounds you’ll have to face the rockets by yourself. It’s pretty intensive gameplay and if you’ve enjoyed the first demo, you’ll love this mode.

The boost, which was regarded as a cheat by many, now really proves useful. When you have lots of bullets and rockets coming towards you, there’s no time to run. Just boost. On the other hand, if you’re already under fire and the bullet time kicks in, boost is a real life saver.

In our opinion, Vanquish is a must have, so look for it when it comes out later this year, October 19th across North America and October 22nd across Europe, for the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Castlevania: LoS Hands-on

Today, the PlayStation Plus subscribers received an exclusive demo for the next game in the Castlevania franchise, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. Luckily, we have it and we will cover it for you. The demo will arrive for non-Plus PSN members and for the other platforms next week, on 29th of September. The game is produced by Mercury Stream in association with Kojima Productions. Kojima made some of the biggest games on the console market, the last one being Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots for the PlayStation 3, so the expectations are very high for this reboot of the Castlevania series.

I will admit right from the beginning that I’m new to the series and I didn’t play any of the old games. The demo starts with a loading screen, displaying a briefing where we are told some of the story in the upcoming game and then we go right into the action. The opening moments show the main hero, Gabriel, arriving at a village, where he seeks the Guardian of the Lake. Unfortunately he is not alone and in around ten seconds, the whole place is swarming with demons. The visual impact is strong, the game has some nice graphical details here and there and the sound effects are good. The voice acting is high quality and it will add to the atmosphere. Overall, the game has a nice atmosphere and you will more than likely immerse into the world of Castlevania, once you’ll get your hands on the game.

The combat mechanics are good, but it feels a little too God of War at times. Similar to God of War, in Lords of Shadows we have two types of attack, direct attack and area of effect attack, grabs and instant kills, daggers for long range kills and air attacks. There are also some scripted moments throughout the fight. The down side of the combat system is that the flow of the action is a little too slow compared to God of War, but the big demons in the game will keep your fingers on the controller long enough.

After some intense fights, another cutscene rolls and Gabriel is sent to the forest nearby to find the Guardian of the Lake. In the second part of this demo, we have some new gameplay mechanics, involving horse riding and combat. The controls are pretty simple in this section: we have the direct and area attacks, a dodge move and the ability to jump to the opponent’s horse (beast actually) and take him out up close and personal.

The combat relies on an upgrade system, which allows you to buy new moves, skills and all that combat related stuff. The XP points are earned by killing enemies. We can buy skills for the horse too, but those weren’t available in the demo.

The presentation is good and the gameplay is strong and engaging. The game has some variety in terms of gameplay and I bet there will be even more variety in the final game. The atmosphere is very good and the visual and sound impact is strong. The story looks promising and we can’t wait to get our hands on the full game on 7th of October, when it arrives in Europe. Stay tuned on GamaGanda.net for more news on the game and for the full review, after the official release.

ArcaniA – Gothic 4 DRM Details

JoWood Entertainment released new details on the DRM solution for ArcaniA – Gothic 4. The game can be installed on an unlimited number of PCs and only needs to be activated once via the Internet. To play, which can be done at up to three PCs at a time, neither the original disc nor a constant internet connection is needed. The possibility of an uncomplicated transfer of license between the used PC offers a maximum of flexibility to the customer.

The implemented digital services will be perfected by a user-friendly Auto Update Feature that informs the gamer pro-actively – without an annoying search – about the availability of a new Update and installs with the permission of the gamer right away says Sascha Geschwendtner, Product Manager Games Services Sony DADC.

In addition other innovative solutions to increase the usability and the comfort of the game were implemented one of them being the verification of the release date. This feature allows the user to install the game in advance and to start it directly on the release date and therefore helps to avoid unnecessary waiting time to access the game-world.

A demo will be released this week, on September 24th, for Xbox 360 and PC. The demo comprises the first two hours of the game and shows the beginning tutorial level on Feshyr Island featuring selected quests.
